Help Mooseheart School win $500,000!!!
A Few Mouse Clicks Mean $500,000 to Mooseheart School ... or Not.

If, by just clicking a computer mouse a few times over five to ten minutes, you could send a HALF-MILLION DOLLARS to help Mooseheart's kids, you'd do it -- wouldn't you?

We sure hope so.

Thanks to Kohl's department stores, that's the opportunity we Moose members have!

Between now and Friday evening, September 3, by just "voting" for Mooseheart School as your "favorite school" on the "Kohl's Cares" page on Facebook, we Moose members can get that $500,000 from Kohl's Cares Foundation for Mooseheart School!

That's $500,000 we then WON'T need to ask from the men and women of the Moose to help operate Mooseheart's school this year!

If you have a Facebook account (easy to set up), if you're 13 or older, and you're a U.S. resident -- just go to http://apps.facebook.com/KohlsCares, follow the directions to vote the maximum allowed FIVE (5) times for Mooseheart School -- and that's all there is to it!

Please ask your spouse, your family and all your friends to do the same!

If Mooseheart School finishes among the top 20 schools in nationwide voting, we'll receive a Kohl's Cares check, payable to Mooseheart School, in the amount of $500,000!

It costs you $0 -- just a few minutes of your time! What an easy way to fulfill our membership obligation to "support Mooseheart with my energy and substance"!

PLEASE don't let this opportunity pass us by! Your Mooseheart students need you to vote, NOW!

Warm fraternal regards,
William B. Airey (Director General) and Scott Hart (Executive Director)

As we draw into fall, some of our memories go back to the changing colors of the North Woods. The changing of the leaves often caused me to reflect on the changes that my family and I had experienced between the season. Well, our Moose Fraternity is undergoing many changes as your officers, social quarters, and kitchen staff work to make your Lodge a welcome place. Between now and October, we will be welcoming our “snowbird” friends back; I can almost hear the stories, and laughter as they are told.

You have noticed a change in our bar prices. To stop the rumors, we are not going broke, the decision was made because Moose International requires that difference between what we pay for material (cost of goods sold or COGS) and the money we make on the item cannot be greater than 31%. On most items, we were significantly higher. There are three (3) main factors that affect this cost spread; one, the price charged for the item; two, how much of a product you give away (comps) or spillage; three, shrinkage (product missing from inventory). Item three is not the problem, we are fortunate to have one of the most trustworthy and faithful staff around. Our prices are comparative with other fraternal organizations in the area and during these times, we did not want to increase the prices. We reviewed the “happy” hour prices and realized that our happy hours were happy days! Therefore, we cut reduced priced drinks except our hotdog and beer Sundays. We were just notified by our Daytona Beverage (Budweiser products) that the cost of Budweiser products would be increasing 2 cents per bottle September 1st. The House Committee will have to keep an eye on this change.

Shortly, you will notice a new cash register…well; it is much more than that. A Point of Sale (POS) system will allow better inventory control, the ability to accept credit cards for payment, and accurately report sales taxes. This system should be up and running by the second week in September.

There are some great membership drives going on now. Just sign up two new or reinstated members between now and April 30, 2011 and your dues will be paid by Moose International. This is an ongoing program so if you sign up two members every year, you will never have to pay dues again.

I need someone to train as Assistant Administrator/Social Quarters Manager. Pam and I would like to take some trips this fall so someone is needed to cover the job. Computer skills and knowledge of QuickBooks Pro would make the job a breeze. I have gone back to college for a Bachelor’s of Science in Information Technology/Business System Analysis, and it is kicking my 63-year-old butt…but I love it. Having someone trained that could share the tasks would be of great service to the Lodge.

Thank you that do come out and support the Lodge activities. We are always looking for suggestions on ways to make your Lodge more attractive. You can make your suggestions known to Governor Bob, Pam, Entertainment Chairman Mick or myself. If you have a suggestion for the kitchen, talk with our new kitchen manager, Linda. Joann is recovering from major surgery and as such, she could not continue in the job of kitchen manager. Linda could always use help.

Fraternally yours and May God Bless you all,

Larry D. Abernathy
